Message from David Harker -
Chief Executive of the National body of Citizens Advice
David Harker
The various worlds we operate in are changing. In more than thirty years in the voluntary sector I have never seen it so often and so highly praised and courted by politicians or the target of so many new initiatives. It has its own dedicated minister and an Office of the Third Sector within the Cabinet Office. Translating this into real benefit for our work remains a challenge. Rhetoric does not fill bank accounts or provide long terms financial stability to hand-pressed voluntary and community organisations, particularly when local authorities which remain the main funders of local organisations are under such financial pressure. But the prominence given to the sector provides opportunities to set out what we can contribute to key policy areas from community cohesion to child poverty.
